چکیده
XL-Calibur is a hard X-ray (15-80 keV) polarimetry mission operating from stabilised balloon-borne platform in the stratosphere. It builds on heritage X-Calibur mission, which observed accreting neutron star GX 301-2 Antarctica, between December 29th 2018 and January 1st 2019. The design incorporates an mirror, focusses X-rays onto polarimeter comprising beryllium rod surrounded by Cadmium Zinc Telluride (CZT) detectors. housed anticoincidence shield to mitigate background particles present mirror polarimeter-shield assembly are mounted at opposite ends of 12 m long lightweight truss, pointed with arcsecond precision WASP - Wallops Arc Second Pointer. will achieve substantially improved sensitivity over using larger effective area reducing through thinner CZT detectors, shielding. When observing 1 Crab source for $t_{\rm day}$ days, Minimum Detectable Polarisation (at 99% confidence level) $\sim$2$\%\cdot t_{\rm day}^{-1/2}$. energy resolution 40 keV $\sim$5.9 keV. aim this paper describe performance as well foreseen science programme.

Balloon-borne Hard X-ray Imaging and Future Surveys
Several payloads for hard X-ray (20-600 keV) imaging with coded aperture telescopes have been developed for balloon flight observations of cosmic x-ray sources. We briefly review the characteristics of these, particularly the EXITE2 system. The recent NASA program to develop an extended long duration (100d) balloon flight capability employing super-pressure balloons would allow a qualitatively ...
متن کاملPOLARIX: a small mission of x-ray polarimetry
X-Ray Polarimetry can be now performed by using a Micro Pattern Gas Chamber in the focus of a telescope. It requires large area optics for most important scientific targets. But since the technique is additive a dedicated mission with a cluster of small telescopes can perform many important measurements and bridge the 40 year gap between OSO-8 data and future big telescopes such as XEUS. POLARI...
متن کاملX-ray second harmonic generation.
We report clear experimental evidence for second harmonic generation at hard x-ray wavelengths. Using a 1.7 Å pumping beam generated by a free electron laser, we observe second harmonic generation in diamond. The generated second harmonic is of order 10 times the background radiation, scales quadratically with pump pulse energy, and is generated over a narrow phase-matching condition. Of import...
متن کاملHigh resolution hard x-ray microscope on a second generation synchrotron source.
A full-field, transmission x-ray microscope (TXM) operating in the energy range of 7-11 keV has been installed at the U7A beamline at the National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory, a second generation synchrotron source operating at 0.8 GeV. Although the photon flux at sample position in the operating energy range is significantly low due to its relatively large emittance, the TXM can get high ...
